Parkinsonism Defied-Recovery Achieved

1.INTRODUCTION:

At 48, Mr. Srinivas Rao’s life shifted dramatically as he began a long battle with multiple health challenges. Initially diagnosed with diabetes at Naidu Hospital, his struggles soon expanded to include cervical spondylitis, persistent numbness, and other unexplained neurological symptoms. Despite visits to several hospitals and trying Ayurveda for relief, definitive diagnosis remained elusive for years. In 2020, his health concerns deepened when hypertension and Parkinsonism were identified, marking a pivotal point in his medical journey. Now managing tremors, stiffness, and slow movements associated with Parkinson’s Disease, Mr. Rao relies on lifelong medications and comprehensive care to navigate the complexities of his condition.

2.PATIENT INFORMATION:

Name: Mr. Srinivas Rao
Age: 54 years

At 48, Mr. Srinivas Rao’s life took an unexpected turn when he visited Naidu Hospital in Hyderabad, seeking relief from ankle pain. Diagnosed with diabetes by Dr. Naidu, he began a regimen of medications. However, the challenges didn’t stop there. In 2009, severe neck pain and dizziness led him to BHEL Hospital, where Dr. Prakash Reddy’s thorough examination revealed cervical spondylitis. This diagnosis brought more medications and the addition of a neck belt to his daily routine. Despite these interventions, symptoms persisted, leading him to Medcity Hospital in 2012 for numbness in his hands and legs. A ten-day hospitalization and numerous medications later, the exact cause remained elusive. Seeking alternative solutions, he turned to Ayurveda at Vaidhyanada Medical Store under the guidance of Dr. Manika Reddy, experiencing symptomatic relief but no definitive diagnosis.

By 2014, walking and waking up became difficult, prompting visits to ESI and Deccan Hospitals. Although his insulin was stopped, and a vague neurological condition was suggested, no concrete diagnosis emerged. Undeterred, Mr. Rao continued with lifelong medications and regular check-ups. His journey took a concerning turn in 2020 when dizziness and fatigue brought him to Archena Hospital. Here, Dr. Srinivasa Naidu diagnosed him with hypertension and an increased blood glucose level, necessitating insulin and hypertensive medications. A new layer was added to his health puzzle when Parkinson’s Disease was identified by his spouse’s sister, leading to additional medications.

Mr. Srinivas Rao’s Parkinsonism condition, diagnosed in 2020, manifests as tremors, stiffness, and slow movement. It affects his daily activities and requires lifelong medication for management. This neurological disorder, characterized by the degeneration of nerve cells in the brain, leads to symptoms that progressively worsen over time.

Mr. Srinivas Rao’s treatment regimen has undergone significant changes after following a holistic approach. His current medications have been tapered to reflect his improved health. Previously, he was on Telmisartan 40mg and Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5mg to manage hypertension and protect kidney function, but this has now been reduced. For diabetes, he was using Glimepiride 0.5mg and Metformin hydrochloride 500mg, which helped manage blood glucose levels, but these have remained stable with minimal dosage adjustments. Metoprolol succinate 23.75mg, a cardioselective beta-blocker, was used to lower blood pressure and reduce heart rate but has now been adjusted to further improve cardiovascular health. He was also on Atorvastatin 40mg for cholesterol management, which has been tapered as well. Pain management involved Aceclofenac 100mg and paracetamol 325mg, which were reduced as inflammation and discomfort decreased. Additionally, Levodopa 100mg and Carbidopa 10mg, used for Parkinsonism symptoms like tremors and motor issues, have been stabilized to maintain balance. Aspirin 150mg was prescribed to prevent blood clots and manage inflammation, but this medication has been maintained at a minimal dose. His multivitamin supplementation has been tapered, and his insulin dosage for diabetes management, previously at 24 units, has been tapered 20 units of insulin, indicating better blood sugar control. These adjustments highlight the positive changes in his condition, significantly improving his quality of life while reducing reliance on medications.
